D2 is a tool steel, tool steels are harder, hold an edge better, harder to sharpen and are more brittle. 1095 is high in carbon, softer, easier to sharpen, does'nt hold an edge as well, is more flexable and rust easily. My Chris Reeve is A2, I love it. I keep up with My edge, so just a few strokes on a ceramic stone keeps it sharp.
