Critical ethnography has been around for about twenty-five years, and the things it has been critical of are still very much in place, and even more pronounced in many cases. Should we feel discouraged? That's one question, similar to the one my friend asks his students. Webethnography remains a contested and, in our view, often loosely used term. In this paper we are less concerned with defining terms than in marking out an approach which is simultaneously critical and non-positivist.
